PHILIPPINE BUSINESSES adopting artificial intelligence tools must prioritize maintaining trusted, high-quality data and human oversight to ensure informed decision-making, CIBI Information, Inc. said. CIBI President and Chief Executive Officer Pia Arellano said that while modern digital tools, especially those powered by AI, can process data at a higher scale, these cannot guarantee better decisions.
“Technology gives us tremendous speed and scale, but speed along does not give us judgement. If the information going into those systems is incomplete or unreliable, technology can simply allow us to arrive at the wrong deci-sion faster,” Ms. Arellano said in an e-mail interview with BusinessWorld. Some organizations have the wrong belief that acquiring vast amounts of raw data automatically means having actionable intelligence, she said.
“Data becomes a distraction when organizations start confusing having more information with having better intelligence. You can have thousands of data points, but if they are fragmented, outdated, duplicated, or viewed without the right context, they can create the illusion of visibility without necessarily helping you see the whole picture. ” Ms. Arellano said business leaders must anchor their information strategy on the specific decisions to be made rather than focusing on collecting larger volumes of data.
